DOC MARTENS CARRY ME HOME
(many went, but they never returned)

Dance Cleopatra's history is one of line-up changes. For most of the time it was an nine-piece band: drums, guitar, keys, bass, vocals, percussion, saxophone, trumpet, trombone. Sometimes we felt like the Ajax soccer team: members leaving all the time to play in other ska bands like Silly Walks and the Beatbusters. Fortunately we were able to transfer some members of the W8-ers, Third Way and the Tribez Of Idiotz into Dance Cleopatra. However, this meant that almost every show had Dance Cleopatra in a new/different line-up.

Despite the fact that people came and went all the time, there was a small hard core of members: Gert Jan, Marc, Eric, Randy, Giesbert and eventually Serge and Coen sticked around. In the end there was a strong rivalry (some may call it a feud) between Dance Cleopatra and Silly Walks (Sing along with the Yogho Yogho commercial tune: "The vocalist of Silly Walks is a dwarf, oh my god I need to barf").

Due to musical and personal differences some members left to start a side project called The Screamin' Abdubs. At first Randy, Coen, Eric and Giesbert played in both bands, but they decided to go all the way for The Abdubs. The leftover members (Marc, Gert Jan and some others) tried to keep the spirit alive. With a short in between stop being The Refridgerators they ended up renaming the band into Longshot, also following a new direction, combining ska with pop. Both The Abdubs and Longshot are still around. The Abdubs don't play any old Dance Cleopatra songs, but have three ex-DC-members. Longshot still plays four to five old Dance Cleopatra songs, but only one Longshot member (Coen, who joined Longshot after one year in 1996) did actually play in Dance Cleopatra. On the first Longshot CD you can find three Dance Cleopatra songs (Doc Martens Carry Me Home, Who Comes In Last and Mirrorman).
